Hannes Werthner is the founder of EC3. He established the research center in 2000 and gave direction to the center.
At Vienna University of Technology, he is professor for e-commerce, Dean for business informatics and director of the recently founded PhD SChool of Informatics at the faculty of informatics. Before he was professor for information systems at the University of Innsbruck and professor for e-commerce and informatics at the University of Trento, Italy; since 2003 he is Permanent Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey, UK. Furthermore, Werthner was member of ISTAG (Information Society Technology Advisory Group), a high-level consulting group that consults the European Union in matters giving direction to the European IT research. He is Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Information Technology and Tourism.
Werthner is member of the editorial board of the journals "International Journal of Electronic Markets" and "Informations-Systeme und E-Business Management". He is member of the boart of the Journal "eJOV - das elektronische Journal of Organizational Virtualness".
Er holds a doctoral degree from Vienna University of Technology, and has published more than 100 scientific papers and books. His main research areas are Internet-based information systems, particularly e-commerce and e-business, recommender systems (decision support) and service engineering.

Marcus Berger has accompanied EC3 ever since its foundation in 2000. Besides his active contributions in establishing and developing EC3, he attaches importance to supporting the topic-oriented linking between scholarship and business on the basis of specific projects and establishing EC3 as information network and communication platform.
After freelancing as independent consultant during and after his studies of computer science and business management, he completed a trainee programme at Siemens Austria and worked at max.mobile (later T-Mobile Austria). As authorised signatory of T-Mobile Austria he was in charge all IT concerns (CIO); as member of the international leading team of the T-Mobile/Deutsche Telekom Group he was, amongst others, in charge of setting-up and establishing a group-wide Enterprise Application Integration (EAI). Currently, Marcus Berger engages internationally as independent consultant.
Andreas Muzik is CEO of Webges Meeting Applications GmbH that had been member of EC3 from 2003 to 2008. Webges provides online services for event promoters and visitors. Andreas Muzik continues his membership at EC3 as individual and controls the financial issues of EC3 as he had in the years before.

Member of the board of the Austrian Statistical Society (since 1996), President of the Austrian Statistical Society (since 2006), Vice chairman of the Austrian Statistics Board (2005), Member International Statistical Institute, American Statistical Association, Biometrical Society.
His main research areas are: statistical data management and IT sytems; meta data and ontologies in statistics; data mining and applied statistics; information technologies in learning and teaching; the application of quantitative methods (statistcs, informatics, mathematics) in interdisciplinary research projects.
Grossman lead many research projects, such as: Blended Learning for Statistics (project in conjunction with the e-learning initiative of the University of Vienna 2006 -2007); data collection for teaching foreign languages in schools in Austria (project of the Austrian ministry of education, arts and culture, 2006); Metanet - a network of excellence for the harmonizing the development of statistical meta data (project in the 5th EU framework program, 2001-2003); project manager for data mining and data warehousing at the E-Commerce Competence Center (EC3) (since 2000); and many more.
